A Feeling You’re Left With

Xavier Khouangsathiene is a sculpture artist currently focused on making interactive sculpture. His work mirrors the sincerity of homemade cards, gifts and late-night phone calls, it’s clumsy yet direct. He uses his voice and hands to craft objects that reach beyond surface-level interaction; fluid emotions and biology, intrusive ugly thoughts, and the internal conflict of a shut mouth shut versus the desire to be outspoken.

Obsessively crafted bulbous blocks of newspaper and tape stacked together, pillows to speak and listen to, lumpy body parts to be illuminated with levers and switches.

His sculptures highlight the importance of finding self and relationships despite the complexities, difficulties and efforts required to maintain them. It invites and demands viewers to touch and speak with the objects directly as to mimic these human interactions.
